What is like driving on the world highest road on India Day Tour!

Can you imagine while your trip to India day tours takes you to testing your driving skills on the world’s highest motorable road at Khardung La (pass) – it is 5,602 m (18,380 feet) above the sea level.  Surrounded with panoramic views Khardung La is located in the Ladakh region in J & K.  The pass offers a gateway to Shyok and Nubra valleys.  The pass is also of a great historical importance as it was used as a caravan route by 10,000 horses annually from Leh to Kashgar in Central Asia.

Khardungla Pass on India Day Tour

Built in 1976 after the hectic efforts by army that even led to the lifting of equipments like jeep and cranes to the spot was opened to public motor vehicles in 1988 and has since then is a witness to many a good number of automobile, motorbike and mountain biking expeditions.

It is just simple driving through the road passing across the Khardung La to the Nubra you will come across the just mesmerising natural beauty and spell bounding landscape.

Shyok Valley

In case after receiving permission from the army you can even get a chance to drive through 70 Kms long Siachen glacier, the world’s highest battlefield as well.  However, to one’s amazement the India Army operates the ‘world highest souvenir shop’ there to buy Khardung La branded merchandise including mugs, plates, cups, T-shirts and plaques for your loved and dear ones.

Siachein Glacier

The most memorable part of driving on India day tour to Ladakh is driving along the Shyok and Nubra rivers that  will give you feeling of an alien land. Contrary to your expectations never miss to visit the stunning Hunder Fort, Diskit Monastery, the Panamik Hot Water Springs and a meeting with double humped Bactrian camels there. Nubra Valley was once on a legendary Silk Route, the historic trade tour.

However as  Khardung La is one of the most popular destinations in Leh and the gateway to Nubra and Siachen glacier you may encounter a lot of traffic there and army convoys, so, it is best to start your journey as earliest as possible to Khardung La and be well aware of weather forecast in advance.
